Sayyid Al-Hakeem Affirms Iraq’s Support for Lebanon, Calls to Halt Assaults, Enhance Coordination to Achieve Regional Challenges
His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, received in His office in Baghdad on Monday morning, 16 February 2026, His Excellency the newly appointed Ambassador of the Lebanese Republic to Iraq, Mr. Khaleel Abdullah Mohammed.
His Eminence extended a warm welcome to His Excellency, wishing him and the Lebanese diplomatic mission success in carrying out their duties, and affirmed the deep-rooted ties between the two brotherly nations and peoples, stressing that Iraq—its government, people, and social and political powers—continues to stand firmly in support of Lebanon and its people.
His Eminence reiterated His condemnation of the ongoing attacks and shelling targeting Lebanon, urging the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in bringing these violations to an end, while underscoring the importance of ensuring the return of the displaced and rebuilding the affected cities and towns. His Eminence also reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to standing with its brothers and to strengthening bilateral relations in all fields,
H.E. called for closer coordination on strategic issues, emphasizing the necessity of confronting extremist ideologies and eliminating dormant terrorist cells wherever they exist, in order to reinstate stability and security in the region.
