    Sayyid Al-Hakeem Affirms UN’s Role to Support Development, Stability, Calls for Governance Cooperation, Diversify Iraq’s Economy

    His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, received in his Baghdad office the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Iraq, Dr. Mohammed Ghulam Ishaq, where they reviewed the mandate of the UN coordination mission and the key programs being implemented across Iraq. 
    His Eminence was briefed on the scope of the United Nations’ activities in Iraq and affirmed the vital role played by the UN, alongside international organizations, in supporting development efforts and promoting stability.
    His Eminence highlighted that Iraq is facing mounting economic and climate-related challenges, which necessitate closer coordination and integrated action commensurate with the scale of these issues. H.E. stressed the importance of transitioning away from a rentier-based economy and revitalizing productive sectors, particularly agriculture, industry, investment, modern technology, and tourism, in order to diversify revenue streams and strengthen the national economy.
    H.E. also called for enhanced cooperation in the areas of governance and digital transformation, noting that the adoption of modern systems contributes to curbing corruption, enhancing institutional performance, and delivering more efficient public services through the optimal use of time and resources.
