Sayyid Al-Hakeem Affirms Iraqi-Turkish Relations Importance, Preserve Stability
His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, received on Tuesday evening, January 27, 2026, at His office in Baghdad, His Excellency Mr. Bora İnan, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Iraq.
The discussions discussed Baghdad–Ankara relations, regional developments, and areas of mutual interest. H.E. underscored the need to strengthen ties in a way that advances the interests of the two friendly neighboring peoples, highlighting Türkiye’s significance to Iraq given their deeply interwoven cultural, religious, social, and geographic connections.
H.E. illustrated that Iraq has achieved a major milestone in political, social, and security stability and prosperity, urging that this achievement be safeguarded, not compromised, and converted into lasting stability. H.E. also emphasized Iraq’s right to its fair share of water, as a key factor in meeting national needs and confronting climate change and desertification.
H.E. noted that the region is experiencing heightened escalation and rhetoric, stressing the responsibility of regional states to de-escalate tensions and prioritize dialogue as the principal path for resolving outstanding issues and differences.
H.E. further called for strict adherence to constitutional timelines for filling the three presidencies, affirming the importance of forming a government capable of fulfilling the Iraqi people’s aspirations and addressing current political, economic, and security challenges.
