Sayyid Al-Hakeem receives Farmers’ Associations delegation, emphasizes agriculture support, addressing water scarcity through practical, sustainable solutions
His Eminence Sayyid Al-Hakeem, Head of the National State Powers’ Alliance, met this morning at His office with a delegation from the General Union of Farmers’ Associations and the Coordinating Committee of Protesting Farmers, led by Sheikh Emad Al-Budairi, Deputy Chairman of the General Union of Farmers’ Associations. H.E. listened to the key demands of this vital group, affirming the importance of supporting farmers as a fundamental pillar of the country’s social, economic, and environmental structure.
H.E. stressed that the water scarcity crisis requires realistic and practical solutions, noting that addressing the issue cannot come through preventing farmers from practicing their essential profession, but rather through investing in groundwater resources, modernizing irrigation systems, and regulating consumption in ways that increase land productivity and sustain the agricultural cycle.
H.E. also called for comprehensive support for farmers—providing seeds, fertilizers, fuel, and other agricultural necessities—while ensuring fair pricing for crops that enables farmers to continue farming year after year.
H.E. pointed out that moving away from a rentier based state requires activating productive sectors, foremost among them the agricultural sector, especially in light of fluctuations in global oil markets and declining prices.
